DHS GME Residency Expansion Grants

The application period for DHS GME Residency Expansion Grants is now open!

From Linda McCart, DHS Policy Chief . . .

On behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, I am pleased to announce the release of the Request for Applications (RFA) for the GME Residency Expansion Grants.  Residency Grants support expansion of existing accredited GME programs in family medicine, general internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, and psychiatry.  Residency grants may also support the addition of fellowship positions in addiction medicine and addiction psychiatry programs. The grants may fund the addition of up to 3 new resident positions and cover the length of the residency, e.g., 3, 4 or 5 years.  The maximum amount per year per program is $225,000.  The RFA is available at:

DHS will host a Question and Answer conference call for interested parties on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. CT.  Potential applicants are encouraged to submit questions about requirements in the RFA prior to the call to ensure prompt responses during the call. DHS cannot answer questions prior to the call and no questions will be answered after the call.  All questions and their response will be posted to the DHS web site noted above.

The deadline for submission of completed applications is 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018. Please see the timeline on page 2 of the RFA for other important dates.

Note: Accredited GME programs unfamiliar with the DHS GME Residency Expansion Grant should be aware that successful grantees may apply for a continuation grant following the initial grant period (please see Section  5 – Eligible Applicants).
